After announcing his forthcoming departure just two days ago, the Belgian’s final clash with the Red Devils ended in similar fashion to his first Manchester derby, a goalless draw.
The hosts created the better openings in a dull and tense opening 45 minutes at a sunny Old Trafford with Alejandro Garnacho having the best chance, but he failed to make any meaningful contact on the ball from Diogo Dalot’s cross.
MATCH REPORT: MANCHESTER UNITED 0-0 CITY
However, inside the first 10 minutes after the break, we threatened Andre Onana’s goal twice through shots from De Bruyne and Omar Marmoush, but both were smothered comfortably by the United goalkeeper.
Shortly after the hour mark, we continued out attacking momentum, as Marmoush stung the palms of Onana twice in quick succession.
Firstly with a well-struck free-kick from 25 yards, which he won himself after being bundled over by Victor Lindelof, and then on the volley from a similar distance, but both were parried away effectively.
Joshua Zirkzee swept an effort on target shortly before full-time, but the agile Ederson was alert and attentive to spring into action and palm the ball away from danger.
The draw keeps us in fifth place in the Premier League, one point behind Chelsea.
