Not only did beating the Swiss side, courtesy of goals from Erling Haaland (2) and Phil Foden, take us to the knockout stages of the Champions League for an 11th successive season, it saw us hit another landmark in the Club’s growth on the continental stage.
As well as that, we extended our unbeaten run in Europe to 18 matches – a new record for English sides.
We move beyond the current West Ham team, who lost in the Europa League last time out to end a 17-match run that had already eclipsed Chelsea (2019), Leeds (1968) and Tottenham Hotspur (1972).
Having taken 183 matches, we are the second quickest of the six English sides to reach 100 wins.
52 of those victories have come under the watch of current boss Pep Guardiola, who guided us to our maiden Champions League triumph last season.

That success was part of our historic Treble, when Guardiola became the first manager to win Trebles with two different men’s teams in Europe.
Last season the boss also became the quickest manager to 100 Champions League wins after the 4-0 semi-final second leg defeat of Real Madrid.
Manuel Pellegrini, Pep’s predecessor, took charge of 13 European wins at City with Joe Mercer and Roberto Mancini (11 each) next.
Mark Hughes (seven wins), Tony Book (four) and Kevin Keegan (two) also managed City in Europe.
This record is spread across three UEFA competitions. 68 of the wins have come in the Champions League, 21 in the UEFA Cup/Europa League and 11 in the Cup Winners’ Cup, which we lifted in 1969/70.
German side Borussia Monchengladbach have been on the end of a wrong result against City more than anyone else in European football, having tasted defeat against us on five occasions.
We have beaten each of Schalke, Bayern Munich, Sevilla, Paris Saint-Germain, Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid four times.
Liverpool are the quickest English side to win 100 times in Europe, taking 170 games, while we have narrowly pipped Tottenham Hotspur to the post, with the North London club needing 184 fixtures.
The remaining English sides are Manchester United (191), Chelsea (192) and Arsenal (209).
