On this day in 2018, City were crowned Premier League champions for the first time under Pep Guardiola's guidance.

Going on to claim a further three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four Carabao Cups and the Community Shield on two occasions, our success has continued apace under the Catalan.

However, the 2017/18 campaign, our ‘Centurions’ season, saw Guardiola’s men reach new heights and set a flurry of astounding records.

City are once again in the thick of the Premier League title race, with this year’s sure to go down to the wire.

However, we’ve wound the clock back to 2018, to look at some of the key milestones and records that City reached in the first of our four titles under Guardiola...

HIGHEST POINTS

Guardiola’s side dropped just 14 points en route to the Premier League crown, surpassing the previous record held by Chelsea (95) in the 2004/05 campaign.

City had already broken new ground with a game to spare, but would reach an historic 100 points thanks to Gabriel Jesus’ injury-time goal against Southampton on the final day of the season.

The accolade also highlighted our incredible consistency at both the Etihad Stadium and on the road.

City picked up the same number of points away from home (another record) as we did on home soil.

MOST WINS

City won 32 of our 38 Premier League matches in 2017/18 – the most of any side in the competition’s history across a single season.

Incredibly, we equalled that tally again in our 2018/19 title-winning campaign, with Liverpool the only other team to match it one year later.

An 18-match winning run between a 2-1 triumph over Bournemouth on 26 August and a 1-0 victory at Newcastle on 27 December is also another milestone which has never been bettered in the Premier League era.

GOALS GALORE

It’s often said that putting the ball in the back of the net is the hardest job in football. City managed it a record 106 times in the 2017/18 Premier League campaign.

A 5-0 win over Liverpool in September 2017 provided an early indication of our attacking prowess, with Guardiola’s men hitting three or more goals on 21 separate occasions across the Premier League season.

Sergio Aguero - who would become the Club’s record goalscorer during the season - was our leading marksman in the league, grabbing 21 goals in 25 appearances, while Raheem Sterling (18), Gabriel Jesus (13) and Leroy Sane (10) also reached double figures.

Over the course of the entire season, City averaged just shy of 2.8 goals per game while our +79 goal difference is also the largest in Premier League history.

LARGEST WINNING MARGIN

City would end the season 19 points above second-placed Manchester United, the largest gap between the top two in the Premier League.

The title was wrapped up on this day when Jose Mourinho’s side were beaten by West Bromwich Albion on this day in 2018, four weeks and five matches before our final match against Southampton.

At the time, it was a record for the earliest in the season that a team had been crowned Premier League champions.

Manager of the Month

The final word has to go to Guardiola, who would deservedly be named Manager of the Season after guiding City to an historic Premier League title.

Between September and December, the boss would also claim four consecutive Manager of the Month awards, the longest streak in the competition’s history.

During that period, City won 17 of our 18 matches, with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Eve the only occasion on which we dropped points.
