Riyad Mahrez believes the second-half display deserved the win after his double helped City fight back to win 4-2 against Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium.

The No.26 put City into the lead for the first time in the game before getting another in added time at the end of the second half.

Before his brace, Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland got City back into the game, with two quickfire goals to draw the game even.

Just prior to being awarded the Man of the Match award, he praised Pep Guardiola’s words at half time.

“At half time we were a bit frustrated, and the manager spoke to us and then we knew we could come back because we have done it before,” the Algerian winger expressed.

“I thought we played so good second half and we showed what we are and a bit of luck as well, but we deserved the win and we have to keep going.”

Antonio Conte’s men proved to be a stern test, and Mahrez explained how the team upped the energy to explore ways to find the breakthrough.

“I was trying like everyone, we were trying to be more direct, more aggressive with the ball and we were still having chances.

“Then we scored and that’s football and second half we were on top form, and we scored four goals, so it was a good night.”
