Football is littered with heroic tales of dramatic sudden impacts from the bench.

Indeed, the very word supersub has weaved its way into the lexicon of superlatives surrounding the beautiful game.

City, of course, have a host of players who, over the course of our rich history, have made game-changing contributions after being drafted from the substitute’s bench.

And for the latest instalment of #City30, presented by Nexen, we asked fans to put forward their favourite supersub impact of the Pep Guardiola, Nick Cushing and Alan Mahon eras.

CITYZENS AT HOME

There has been no shortage of valuable recent contributions from the bench – not least this season.

Think of Sergio Aguero’s timely strike which downed a stubborn Sheffield United in January, not to mention Gabriel Jesus’s similar eye-catching impact from the bench to score our all-important winner at Leicester.

But in the end, it was Kun’s (with a little help from fellow sub Raheem Sterling) dramatic late, late impact as substitute in last season’s pulsating FA Cup quarter-final trip to Swansea which won the day.

With an hour played at a rain-lashed Liberty Stadium and City staring at defeat and a Cup exit at 2-0 down, Pep Guardiola summoned up Aguero and Sterling from the bench.

It proved a veritable game changer

First off, Aguero provided the crucial assist for Bernardo Silva’s revival launcher, the Argentine calmly picking out Bernardo before our midfielder superbly curled home on 69 minutes to narrow the deficit.

Then, with 12 minutes left, Sterling was felled in the box, and though Aguero’s subsequent spot-kick initially hit the post, it went in off Swans’ keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt to draw City level.

And in a stunning conclusion, with just two minutes remaining on the clock, Aguero beat Nordfeldt with a diving header off Bernardo‘s low cross at the end of a superb move in the 88th minute.

It set the seal on the most dramatic of comebacks and keep our quest for a quadruple firmly on track.

What an impact!!

Tuesday’s #City30 topic is: Your favourite Wembley trip.
