The 14th edition of the star-studded event took place this evening at the Palm’s spectacular Atlantis with Treble-winners City taking home six of the major honours available.
City, who currently hold the ‘Big Five’ of Premier League, FA Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Cup, won Best Men’s Club from a shortlist of 10, ahead of the likes of Barcelona, Inter Milan and UEFA Europa League winners, Sevilla, who we beat in the Super Cup final in Greece.
Erling Haaland won Best Men’s Player from among 30 star names.
These included Karim Benzema and Kylian Mbappe, who won the 2022 and 2021 honours respectively, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo as well as fellow City players Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva.
Pep Guardiola emerged victorious in the Best Coach category, seeing off competition from the likes of Simone Inzaghi and Luciano Spalletti, who were also the nominees in FIFA’s The Best Men’s Coach award which the City boss won in London earlier this week.
Guardiola previously won Coach of the Century 2001–2020 at the 2020 Dubai Globe Soccer Awards.
There were eight up for Best President, with City’s Khaldoon Al Mubarak coming out on top.
That was ahead of Sevilla’s Jose Castro, Benfica’s Rui Costa, Napoli’s Aurelio De Laurentiis, Bayern Munich’s Herbert Hainer, Barcelona’s Joan Laporte, Joseph Oughourlian of Lens and Real Madrid’s Florentino Perez.
Rodrigo took home Best Midfielder from six finalists, two of who were Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva as well as Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric and Pedri.
The central cog in the City wheel was a driving force throughout the 2022/23 season and has started this campaign in similar fashion.
Of course, he wrote his name in folklore in these parts for his winning goal in the Champions League final victory over Inter Milan, our first triumph in that prestigious competition.
Ederson, meanwhile, was recognised as Best Goalkeeper, again from six finalists, including Thibault Courtois, Yassine Bounou and Andre Onana.
Fans had their say in early December on who should be shortlisted for the awards via the Globe Soccer Website and then those names were voted on later in the month both by supporters and Globe Soccer’s Official Jury, made up of more than 30 key football industry figures, including Francesco Totti, Iker Casillas, Luis Figo and Marcello Lippi.
