In what was a busy month featuring five games across three competitions, Pep Guardiola’s side maintained our unbeaten start to the 2024/25 season.
We recorded important victories over Brentford in the Premier League and Watford in the Carabao Cup as well as securing hard-fought league draws with Arsenal and Newcastle along with sharing a point apiece with Internazionale in our opening Champions League encounter.
Once again there were no shortage of impressive individual displays which made narrowing the selection down to three a tough task but it’s Josko Gavardiol, Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland who have made September’s shortlist.
Jack Grealish
The England winger was at his incisive, attacking best across the month, providing a potent creative outlet for much of City’s most potent attacking work.
As well as fine displays against Brentford and Inter, Grealish also brought all his experience and guidance to bear in that League Cup win over Watford.
It was a game that saw the England international leading by example to help mentor what was a largely youthful and inexperienced City side as well as set up Jeremy Doku‘s opener.
Grealish then rounded off a fine month’s work by providing a superb assist for Josko Gvardiol to fire home during last weekend’s 1-1 Premier League draw away at Newcastle United.
Does Jack get the nod from you in our September vote?
Josko Gvardiol
The Croatian defender continues to go from strength to strength as a formidable figure in the City backline.
His tactical awareness and physical presence allied to his intelligent movement and reading of the game again coalesced to great effect with Gvardiol further cementing his status as a key figure in City’s backline across a series of intense, high-profile games.
Meanwhile Josko then capped another impressive month by finding the target in superb fashion as he served up a man-of-the-match display in last Saturday’s 1-1 draw away at St James’ Park.
It was his sixth City career strike and a goal that as well as serving as a further reminder of his prowess going forward also meant that no defender in the Premier League had scored more goals than the 24-year across the calendar year.
Is Josko your September player of the month?
Erling Haaland
The Norwegian striker has maintained his magnificent start to the 2024/25 campaign.
A brace of goals against Brentford in our opening fixture of the month helped secure an important 2-1 league victory as City came from behind to overcome Thomas Frank’s side.
And Erling then followed that feat up by netting early on in our 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal to bring up what was his 100th City career goal – a feat achieved in just 105 games.
It also saw Haaland become just the 19th City player to achieve a century of goals for the Club.
Will Erling get your vote as our September player of the month?
