Emotional Jack Grealish paid a personal tribute to Pep Guardiola on the final whistle following our historic Champions League triumph, telling his boss: ‘You’ve made this happen for me’.

Grealish was on the verge of tears as he spoke of his immense joy at winning the competition for the first time, following our 1-0 victory over Inter in Turkey’s Ataturk Stadium.

And he took time to hail his brilliant manager for giving him the belief to perform on the highest of stages.

He said: “He is a genius.

“I said to him ‘I want to thank you because you’ve made this happen for me’.

“He signed me for a lot of money and even when I was playing bad, he stayed there with me.

“This year he has given me the platform to play and perform and I just said ‘thank you’ to him.”

Grealish described victory in the elite European showpiece as something ‘you work your whole life for’ as he praised his family for supporting him throughout his football journey.

He added: “This is just what you work your whole life for. I’m so happy.

“To win a treble with these players is so special.

“Everyone who knows me knows how much I’m a family person and how much I love football.

“Thanks to all the people who have helped me along the way. I just saw my family in the crowd and it makes me emotional.”
