City’s Julian Alvarez has been included in Argentina’s World Cup squad.

The striker has made 11 appearances for his country so far and will experience the World Cup for the first time in Qatar.

One of our 2022 summer signings, Alvarez has showcased his quality in attacking positions in recent weeks by scoring three goals in his last three appearances.

His first came in the comeback against Sevilla in the Champions League, which he followed with a venomous effort in the success against Fulham and a poacher’s finish against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

The trio of strikes added to his efforts against Nottingham Forest and Copenhagen from earlier this season.

In total, Alavrez has scored seven goals for Pep Guardiola’s side in all competitions and will be looking to add to his tally of two on the international stage.

Argentina have been placed in Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Poland, where they’ll be vying for their fifth World Cup crown this winter - which would be their first since 1986.

A Lionel Messi inspired side saw them lose in the 2014 final in extra-time to Germany, and they’ll be hoping to go one better in Qatar.

Congratulations to Alvarez on making the Argentina squad!
