An Ilkay Gundogan brace of goals helped secure a 2-1 win over United at Wembley in what was a compelling and hard-fought final.
It also sealed a second domestic Double for City following our Premier League triumph and keeps us on course for a potential Treble ahead of next week’s Champions League final.
But for now Stones – who provided a towering display at Wembley - was simply happy to drink in one of the most satisfying and meaningful derby wins in City history.
“I’m so proud of everyone. That is very hard to do. It’s an incredible feeling, the emotion,” said the City and England defender.
“Especially against our neighbours.
“And what a start to the game. I’ve been in a few big games where we score early and it hasn’t ended how we wanted, so today, our mindset and approach, our courage, was incredible.
“It was never going to be an easy game, I’m just so pleased.”
Attention now turns to next week’s Champions League final in Istanbul against Inter where City have the opportunity to make more history by sealing the Treble.
However, for Stones the key is all about keeping focused on the task.
“It’s close. Like I said, we have to focus on the game in hand,” the defender stressed.
“Everyone’s mindset has been incredible to just focus on today and not get ahead of ourselves.
“We’ve crossed this hurdle now and we can dream. Hopefully we can do it.”
Stones was also full of praise for match winner and City skipper Ilkay Gundogan after his amazing Wembley brace.
For Stones, it was another reminder of the German’s capacity to deliver on the biggest of occasions.

“What a player. On the big occasion we’ve all seen it, he turns up and scores incredible goals.
“How he dictates everything. He’s an incredible player and incredible person.”
