Five Manchester City players have been named in the 2022/23 Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year.

John Stones, Ruben Dias, Kevin De Bruyne, Rodrigo and Erling Haaland were all selected for the prestigious annual XI, voted for by their fellow professionals.

Each of the quintet made a phenomenal contribution in an outstanding season as we landed the Treble of the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Selected in the PFA Team of the Year for a second time, Stones was chosen after a brilliant campaign when he played in a hybrid role, switching between defence and central midfield and attack.

City didn’t lose a single game with Stones in the starting XI after the conclusion of the World Cup, with 17 wins and four draws in all competitions from 21 matches.

Fellow defender Dias was also named for a second time after an outstanding season in the heart of our defence.

While stopping the threats from opponents is his primary role, the Portuguese international is also comfortable on the ball and made the second highest number of passes in the Premier League and Champions League.

The only player to make more passes was City midfielder Rodrigo, who was chosen for the XI for the first time.

His unforgettable winner in the Champions League final victory over Inter capped a wonderful campaign when many viewed him as the best holding midfielder in the world.

De Bruyne is included for a fifth time as he continues to be one of the greatest talents in the game worldwide.

He claimed another 28 assists in all competitions in 2022/23, eight more than any other player from Europe’s top five leagues with the nearest being Lionel Messi with 20.

Our final member of the Team of the Year is Haaland, who was also named the PFA Players’ Player of the Year.

In a remarkable debut season at the Etihad, the Norwegian scored 52 goals in all competitions including a Premier League record of 36 goals in a single campaign.

Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said he was proud to have so many players named in the Team of the Year.

“Last season was so special and we’re delighted to see so many of our players recognised for their incredible contribution,” he said.

“I know, for them, it’s a big honour to be selected by your fellow professionals.

“The whole squad were outstanding and it’s a very proud moment for the Club to have five players named in the Team of the Year.

“They have such a hunger and desire to bring success which we saw last season and we have already witnessed in the opening weeks of this season.”
