Kyle Walker says England should cherish reaching the final of the European Championships for the first time – but insists there is one more hurdle to clear.

The Three Lions are into a first international final since 1966 and will now take on Italy at Wembley, some 55 years after beating West Germany at the same venue in the World Cup.

It is a chance to become an England immortal for this group of players and the excellent Walker, having a magnificent tournament, cannot wait for Sunday.

“No England team has done it since 1966 so to finally get this country where it deserves and to do it at Wembley is going to be something special,” said the City right-back.

“But there is one more door to knock down and I can assure you that each and every one of us will give it our all to make sure that we can knock that last door down.

“I haven’t looked back so I haven’t seen the penalty but listen, things swing in your way, things don’t.

“I’ve been in football matches where it hasn’t gone our way and tonight if people are saying it was a 50/50 call it swung our way.

“The grit and determination that this group has shown is fantastic.

“We haven’t been behind in a game in these Euros so to go behind to a special goal and bounce back quite quickly - and then to last the full extra-time as well with Harry getting the penalty, to be there for the rebound, these are big moments.

“Big players need to step up in big moments and we’ve got that in abundance in that dressing room.

“I’ve been very fortunate to pick up medals over the years but this one for your country... I played here for Sheffield United in the play-off final.

“That was probably one of the best moments in my career. Tonight, topped it or came very close.

“Not many players in this country play for England, so to represent your country once is fantastic, but in a European Championship to get to a final is something special.

“We all need to cherish this moment but we all need to concentrate. It’s one last step to make history for this country and get some credit we deserve.”
