Of course, the most important figure for City was the number one spot we claimed on the final day of the 2021-22 season to secure the Barclays Premier League trophy for a second successive year and fourth time in five years.
But here are some of the numbers that explain why it’s been yet another remarkable year for Pep Guardiola’s side.
From Ederson’s shutouts to Erling Haaland’s explosion onto English football, take a look back at an incredible 2022 via some of the statistics below…
Goals, goals, goals
No team has more goals that City in the Premier League over the past 12 months with 92 goals from our 34 matches at an average of more than 2.5 per game.
Add in another 25 goals from 12 Champions League matches and 21 more in seven domestic cup games and it’s been another entertaining year.
City are also second for the total number of shots in the Premier League with 626 in total with the second best conversion rate of 14.7.
Happy Haaland
Despite only joining the Club in the summer, our Norwegian striker has made a phenomenal impact in England with 21 Premier League goals already - the second most of anyone over the entire 12 months.
His double at Leeds in December took him to 20 Premier League goals - the quickest player in history to reach the milestone – hitting the target from just 14 appearances, seven matches sooner than the previous record set by Kevin Phillips.
Haaland was also the quickest player to three Premier League hat-tricks, just eight matches in to his City career, reaching the landmark 40 games ahead of previous record holder Michael Owen.
Haaland’s five goals in the Champions League is also more than any of his team-mates while Riyad Mahrez led the way in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
How may I assist you?
It helps when you have a master creator in Kevin De Bruyne, who once again underlined his status as one of the world’s great assisters.
His 16 assists over the 12 months was more than any other player in the Premier League with another five from nine appearances in the Champions League.
The Belgian also made 110 chances for his team-mates in the Premier League, which was again more than any other player in the country.
De Bruyne also had more shots than any City player over the past 12 months, including four goals in a crucial victory over Wolves in May with the first three inside 24 minutes - the third earliest hat-trick scored from the start of a match in Premier League history.
Pass masters
Possession is key to the way City play and it’s no surprise that we were leading the way on all those metrics yet again.
Our average possession percentage of 68.2% is better than any of our rivals.
We completed the most passes with a total of 20,898 with an accuracy of 89.3% which was also better than any other team.
Rodrigo led the way in the Premier League with a remarkable 2,677 passes over the calendar year.
Hard to beat
No side has lost fewer games in the Premier League than City over the last 12 months.
We were beaten only three times in 2022, which is the fewest of any side in the top division.
We also remained unbeaten in the group stages of the Champions League as we secured our place in the knockout stages again.
Mean machine
While the goals go in at one end, City have been among the best at stopping opponents despite our attacking style.
We conceded just 30 goals over the 12 months, which is the second fewest of the teams to play more than 30 Premier League games.
It helped Ederson win the Golden Glove for a third successive year in May, sharing the prestigious prize with Liverpool’s Alisson Becker.
The Brazilian also made more appearances than any other City player in 2022, featuring in all of our 34 Premier League matches.
Wow Cancelo!
It was a standout year for Joao Cancelo, who has been one of the Premier League’s most impressive full-backs.
The Portuguese defender showed his attacking flair with 57 dribbles completed – the fifth most of any Premier League player.
But he also showed his defensive quality too with 72 tackles, which was joint 12th for players in the top division.
