Pep Guardiola has given an update on the fitness of Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji as well as on the progress of England pair Kalvin Phillips and Kyle Walker ahead of City's game against Fulham.

Haaland has been absent since coming off at the break against Borussia Dortmund last month and has missed the games against Leicester and Sevilla with a foot injury.

Akanji was forced off against Leicester with a minor knock.

On Haaland’s fitness, Guardiola said: “He’s much better. We will decide today (if he can play against Fulham).

“It’s a good step, he starts to train, and we have training this afternoon and we will see.”

Asked what considerations will be taken before deciding if Haaland will return, the boss added: “Himself, his opinion, the doctor’s opinion. If it’s 90 minutes or less we will see after training.”

There was encouraging news concerning Akanji, too, though the boss added that Phillips - who underwent shoulder surgery earlier in the autumn and Walker, who has been out since the Manchester derby in early October, were still unavailable for selection.

Guardiola added: “Manu’s okay. Kalvin and Kyle are still not fit.”

There were no further reported issues ahead of Friday’s afternoon training session.
