The boss has been unable to rule in or rule out anyone until after Friday afternoon’s training session when he can better assess those carrying knocks from previous weeks or our midweek clash with Real Madrid.
At his pre-game press conference, the City boss was asked for updates on Phil Foden, Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson.
He responded: “We are training this afternoon so we will know better how they feel.
“[On Phil] I would like to tell you, but I didn’t speak to the doctors. After the press conference, we have a meeting, and we will see.
“[As for Kyle], I don’t know right now. Honestly I would tell you. Josko was a doubt for Madrid, but our physios did an incredible job, and he could play.”
Ederson was on the bench for the 3-3 draw in the Bernabeu and Guardiola was asked whether he was ready to start against the Hatters if required.
“Eddie is the first choice,” said Pep.
“He was ready to play against Madrid. He is ready for tomorrow and we will make the decision.”
And the boss also fielded a question regarding media reports after the Real Madrid clash suggesting Rodrigo had said he was feeling tired and may need a rest at some stage.
“If a player does not want to play he will not play. Simple. Another player will play,” said Pep.
“Take a look at our games and you realise. It is simple. Rodri is so important for the quality he gives us
“Not just Rodri. I would love to rest our central defenders, but we [can’t because of international] friendly games and now we are now in big trouble.”
It’s another key encounter as the 2023/24 title race reaches the finishing straight with City looking to step up our quest for a historic fourth consecutive Premier League crown while Luton seek to boost their bid to beat the drop.
And, as always, the Official Man City App will provide dedicated coverage of what will be another important game for the boys in blue.
