Michael Brown and Paul Dickov will be special guests on this weekend’s Matchday Live show, offering their thoughts before, during and after the action at the Etihad Stadium.

The show gets under way from 14:00 (UK), with the former City duo casting their eye over Pep Guardiola’s current crop before reconvening for further half-time and post-match debriefs.

injury news

Guardiola says he will make a late decision whether Nathan Ake, John Stones and Kyle Walker will be involved at the Etihad.

Walker has missed the last two games with an injury he suffered against Atletico Madrid in the second leg of our Champions League quarter final.

Ake and Stones both came off early against Brighton on Wednesday, with the Dutchman appearing to have a problem with his leg, whilst his defensive partner reported muscle tightness. 

Guardiola says all three be assessed before the game.

“Roy Hodgson is an incredibly experienced manager, when he was at Crystal Palace, we always struggled to break them down and do good games.

“Everyone plays for some targets. Every game is important. Watford have quality and physicality in the middle and up front, but at the same time we have to be ourselves and try to get another three points.”

Last time out

Goals from Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva were enough to move City back to the Premier League summit with a 3-0 win over Brighton.

Liverpool’s 4-0 triumph over Manchester United had seen Pep Guardiola’s men drop to second, but we restored our one-point lead at the top of the table with a convincing win against the Seagulls.

Previous meeting

City turned on the style at Vicarage Road back in December, moving top of the Premier League for the first time this season with a deserved 3-1 victory.

Raheem Sterling headed home from close-range to open the scoring inside four minutes, before Bernardo Silva doubled our advantage from a tight angle after Ilkay Gundogan’s initial effort had been saved.

The Portuguese midfielder curled home a sumptuous third on the hour, before Watford substitute Cucho Hernandez grabbed a late consolation for the hosts.

The two sides have faced each other 31 times in total, with City coming away as victors on 20 occasions.

Form Guide

Pep Guardiola’s men are unbeaten in each of our last six Premier League matches, coming into the tie with a one-point advantage over Liverpool at the top of the table.

City have only tasted defeat twice in our last 26 matches in all competitions, spanning all the way back to mid-December.

Watford are currently 19^th in the Premier League, seven points from safety. The Hornets have lost each of their last three matches since a 2-1 win away to Southampton at the end of March.
