History was made and records were broken by the teams excellently led by Pep Guardiola, Gareth Taylor, Brian Barry-Murphy and Ben Wilkinson.
For our men’s side, we became the first English outfit to iconically win the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Premier League 2 and National Under-18 Premier League crowns were both achieved for respective third successive seasons by our Elite Development Squad and Under-18s.
None of this, of course, would’ve been achieved without an incredible number of goals finding the back of the net.
Here, we select 10 of our favourites from the calendar year…
FILIPPA ANGELDAHL V CHELSEA (26 MARCH)
Embroiled in a fierce tile race in March, Taylor’s team welcomed reigning champions – and then league leaders – Chelsea to the Joie Stadium looking to land a significant blow on Emma Hayes’ side.
And Filippa Angeldahl’s audacious lob from just inside the box handed the hosts a deserved lead and set us up for a superb 2-0 victory.
Having started brightly, City broke the deadlock through the Swede who collected the ball on the right from Lauren Hemp and creatively chipped the ball into the roof of the net – sending the home support into raptures.
The England international would later fantastically score herself as we recorded one of the Joie Stadium’s most famous victories.
NICO O’REILLY V MIDDLESBROUGH (8 APRIL)
With the teams locked at 1-1 in the closing stages, City needed a moment of inspiration against Middlesbrough to collect the three points needed to reclaim top spot in the league table.
Up-stepped Nico O’Reilly.
In a true reflection of captain’s intervention, the box-to-box midfielder entered the 18-yard area late and produced a jaw-dropping scorpion kick to secure a 2-1 victory.
Speaking after the wonderful goal he said: “I think it’s just natural instinct in the moment. I caught it well and got a good connection on it, caught the bounce well.
“It was a bit of a tight angle as well and I think it’s a good finish.”
ERLING HAALAND V SOUTHAMPTON (8 APRIL)
With City relentlessly chasing down league leaders Arsenal in April, Guardiola’s side needed a convincing win over relegation-bound Southampton to continue our blistering momentum.
Although the Saints frustrated the visitors at St Mary’s for the majority of the first-half, Erling Haaland broke the deadlock with a close-range header on the cusp of half-time.
But it’s the Norwegian’s second goal on the south coast which makes this list when he ghosted towards the back post and reflected his immense athleticism to bicycle kick home our third in the 4-1 success.
By the season’s end, the clinical frontman netted a staggering 52 goals during his maiden campaign for the Club.
CARLOS BORGES V BLACKBURN (23 APRIL)
Eventual Premier League 2 Player of the Year Carlos Borges rubber-stamped the title party when he bagged a brace in a 3-0 win over Blackburn which sealed the league crown.
Dire Medube broke the deadlock with a first-half penalty before the Portuguese doubled Barry-Murphy’s young charges’ lead on 53 minutes.
The latter’s second, and our third, makes the list when he latched onto an precise Oscar Bobb through ball before Borges applied s sublime finish – sparking wild visitors celebrations with the title all-but sealed.
KEVIN DE BURYNE V REAL MADRID (9 MAY)
A familiar foe stood in the way of a second Champions League final in our illustrious history as we locked horns with Real Madrid in the last-four for the second straight season.
Vinicius Junior’s first-half opener gave the reigning European champions the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu which gave the visitors an uphill task in Los Blancos’ cauldron.
But Kevin De Bruyne stepped up with a stinging piledriver after the interval to level the scores and set up a tantalising second leg at the Etihad Stadium six days later.
BERNARDO V REAL MADRID (17 MAY)
With a place in the European showpiece up for grabs, City blew Carlo Ancelotti’s side away with a rampant performance at the Etihad Stadium to win 4-0.
Bernardo Silva ignited the famous victory when breaking the deadlock with a composed goal which blew the roof off our home.
De Buryne slid a precise pass into the Portuguese who had found space inside the box before he kept cool and lashed an effort into the net – sending Thibaut Courtois the wrong way.
The success exorcised the demons from the late heartbreak we suffered against the Spanish side at the same stage of the competition from the year before.
ILKAY GUNDOGAN V MANCHESTER UNITED (3 JUNE)
The first ever all-Manchester cup final was lit up after just 12 seconds when Ilkay Gundogan struck a sensational volley to hand City the lead in the FA Cup showpiece.
Stefan Ortega Moreno delivered a long ball up the pitch before De Bruyne won the aerial duel to knock it back to the German who sent the ball, first time, past David De Gea.
Manchester United equalised through a Bruno Fernandes penalty but it was that man Gundogan again to deliver on the grandest stage with a goal just after half-time to secure a 2-1 win for Pep Guardiola’s side.
RODRIGO V INTER (17 JUNE)
City forever etched our name into footballing history by winning our maiden Champions League – and with it the Treble – after an iconic 1-0 win over Inter in Istanbul.
A Rodrigo piledriver sealed the hard fought victory over the Italian side at the Olympic Ataturk Stadium to ensure our European champions status.
After an evenly contested fixture in the thick Turkey heat, the moment of jubilation arrived on 69 minutes when Manuel Akajni’s cross broke to the salivating Spaniard who drove a low shot home to spark euphoric scenes at the City end of the ground.
For Guardiola, it was his 14th major honour with the Club and he became the first manager to win to Trebles after achieving the same feat with Barcelona in 2008/09.
LAUREN HEMP V MANCHESTER UNITED (19 NOVEMBER)
Gareth Taylor’s side recorded a famous 3-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in November in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
In front of a bumper crowd, the hosts took the lead but City hit back with two quickfire goals from Jill Roord and Lauren Hemp.
The latter’s makes this list when the ball was teed up to her just inside the box and she unleashed an unstoppable, whipped effort into the top corner.
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw then set the seal on a fantastic win by netting our third just after half-time.
KHADIJA ‘BUNNY’ SHAW V EVERTON (17 DECEMBER)
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw enjoyed a tremendous spell in front of goal in the year she became the highest scoring women’s player in a single season in 2022/23.
The Jamaican’s first of three in our final assignment of 2023 against Everton was a sublime lob which handed us the lead at Walton Hall Park.
She beat the Toffees offside trap and remained calm to chip the ball over Courtney Brosnan which set the tone for a phenomenal display in a 4-1 win.
