Manuel Akanji says City struggled to control Sunday's 4-4 Premier League classic with Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola‘s City are renowned for our ability to dictate the tempo of a match and dominate the ball.

However, our hosts had 17 shots - two more than City - in a breathless end-to-end encounter.

It was the first time a side managed by Guardiola has scored and conceded at least four times in the same game.

Akanji, who scored our second with a powerful header just before half-time, was unequivocal when asked if he was happy with just a point.

“No,” he said.

“Especially when we have the lead three times in the game – it was a wild one.

“We couldn’t pull it off, but the good thing is we are still top of the league.

“We came here to get the three points, but we got one. It was a really wide game, back and forth, maybe we should have done better in some situations.

“We did some individual mistakes and didn’t have much control of the game like we normally have.

“It was a game with a lot of transitions – for us and for them.

“We will analyse it and hopefully do better in the next home game against Liverpool.”

In the absence of John Stones, Akanji was asked to push from his centre-back position into midfield while we had the ball.

After a pulsating first half, the Swiss defender says he returned to a more conventional role in the second period.

“We changed it a little bit – we built up with the back four, I dropped deeper, and I felt better in there,” he said.

“We had a little bit more control, but it was still pretty wild.”
