Manuel Akanji says City are out to win as many trophies as possible in 2023/24.

The Swiss international enjoyed an incredible first year at the Etihad Stadium, starting 40 games as City won a historic Treble.

Akanji is part of the squad currently on the pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea, where we will face Yokohama F. Marinos, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.

HOW TO FOLLOW CITY’S 2023 ASIA TOUR

All three matches are available for UK viewers to watch live on CITY+ and Recast.

After that, we return home to face Arsenal in the Community Shield - the first of seven trophies available to us in this coming campaign.

As well as defending our Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup trophies, we will also be competing for the Carabao Cup and playing in the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup for the first time.

Ahead of the new season, Akanji is aiming high.

“We’re going for all of them!” he said.

“I’m ready to go. I’ve had a good summer but now I’m happy to be back and to go again.”

Almost six weeks on from the Champions League final success in Istanbul, the 28-year-old admits it took the squad a while for the magnitude of their achievement to sink in.

“Everybody dreamed of it but to do it in the end was pretty special,” he said.

“In the beginning we knew we had made it but the team didn’t quite realise what we had done.

“Then in the summer we were all off and you’re not with the team anymore.

“I met many of the guys in Ibiza and we had a good time. We all discussed and agreed that we had done something special this year.”

City’s three pre-season games in Tokyo and Seoul are expected to attract large crowds, with local fans keen to get a glimpse of their heroes.

Akanji believes the team’s success under Pep Guardiola has been a key part of attracting interest around the world.

He reflected: “Every day we come to training and we see fans waiting for us outside the CFA wanting autographs.

“Here we have seen a lot of fans already before we have even played a game and we hope to see a lot more in the stadiums. That shows the achievements of the club in the last few years.”
