City secured a Premier League and FA Cup double with a 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Wembley on Saturday.
And Pep Guardiola’s side could yet claim a historic Treble with a UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul against Inter in our final match of the season.
While the focus will quickly switch to facing the Italians, Howey said it was important to enjoy securing silverware ahead of the European showpiece on Saturday, June 10.
“You have to make sure the players enjoy these type of occasions because you can be in a career for 16 or 17 years and not win anything,” the former City defender said on our FA Cup final edition of Matchday Live from Wembley.
“These lads are lucky, some of them have won a lot. But you’ve got to savour it because it goes by in the blink of an eye.
“Ultimately [Pep Guardiola] will say to the players to enjoy themselves and when we come back into work we start again.
“The boys will love that, knowing they’ve been given permission by the manager, and then they’ll know when they come back they’ll work.”

Fellow special guest Alex Williams believes we will head to the Turkish capital without any fear after a brilliant run of results in recent months.
But he said that he expects Inter to make it very difficult with the impressive Italian side beating city rivals Milan home and away in the semi-finals.
“[City] have been on a tremendous run, okay we lost at Brentford, but the run we had prior to that was absolutely unbelievable,” Williams said.
“The confidence that they will take from [beating United] and winning the league against Chelsea, they’ll go into it fearless.
“Winning breeds success and the lads will want to go on and win again. But it’s going to be hard, it’s not easy a Champions League final.
“All the players are going to have to be switched on and focused as we were [against United] to get the job done but they’re more than capable of doing that.”
It will be another supreme test and Howey was full of praise for the team spirit that saw City claim the trophy in the first-ever all-Manchester FA Cup final.
“It’s about getting the job and you’re not going to get you’re on way all the time,” he added.
“It’s about digging in, it’s about communication and it’s about being there for your team-mates and having heart and soul. Every single one of them was there for each other.
“At times it wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t perfect but they got the job done. Now they’re on the edge of greatness and making huge history for this football Club.”
