With City already set for three points, Juanma Lillo’s side didn’t relent with the clock ticking down as Gomez showed his pace, grace and quality down the left side to beat his man and cut the ball back to Haaland who made no mistake and bagged his hat-trick in stoppage time.
David James, Darius Vassell and Kit Symons, analysing in the studio, at full-time were all in awe of the move and the finish.
“Let’s not take away from Gomez,” said James.
“The play from Gomez down the left hand side, the little fake, the cut inside and the bit that got me was he was looking across the six yard line, not seemingly noticing Haaland and then he cut the ball back for him.
“What a goal. From goals of slight fortune to a goal of brilliance.”
“That was a beautiful end to the game because I felt like that was the quality that the game was waiting for,” Vassell continued.
“All the other goals were fortune, a bit of luck, obviously they still had to put them away, but that was quality at its finest. The finish there was spot on.”
“Gomez was lively from when he came on,” added Symons.
“That great bit of skill was against [Timothy] Castagne, who is a top international full-back. So he’s not doing it against some young kid.
“It was a real bit of quality and then the cut-back with the pace he put on the ball. It was a difficult finish and Haaland made it look easy but it was a goal of quality.”
