Erling Haaland bagged four and Julian Alvarez came on to score to mark his century of games in blue in a result that moved us one point behind Arsenal but with a game in hand.
Former midfield ace Brown was impressed with what he saw and insisted that City are showcasing a relentless will to win as we approach the final trio of games against Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham, matches that will decide our top-flight fate in 2023/24.
“It was a wonderful performance – and so hungry from the players,” said Brown.
“I think it was an important win. It was a convincing win.
“You have to keep pushing. You have to keep driving. And we used all the squad, too, with Julian Alvarez coming on and getting himself a goal. He didn’t look like he was going to miss. Jeremy Doku came on and impressed. John Stones got a good bulk of minutes. It was a wonderful afternoon of football.
“It’s just continuous the level of performance and desire to get better and better and drive on. The will to win is fantastic.”
Brown, who starred for City between 1994–1999 and won our Player of the Year in 1998, called on Pep Guardiola’s men to pick up the points to ensure they enjoy the ‘unbelievable rewards’ of being Premier League winners once again.
“The players seem to be in their stride and they realise what’s around the corner, a couple more weeks, a few more results will get them unbelievable rewards that they’ll never forget for the rest of their lives and the supporters, too.
“It was a big win. It was a big step. They’re almost in touching distance and now two away games, can they get over the line?
“It’s a difficult one when you go Saturday, Tuesday, trips away, it’s really important they rest now in this week and they get ready for such a big few games of football. It’s exciting.”
