Mateo Kovacic joins Pep Guardiola’s squad from Chelsea, where he made 221 appearances across five seasons.
His 2018 loan move to the Blues was made permanent ahead of the 2019/20 season and the midfielder went on to win a host of trophies having already done so with previous club, Real Madrid.
Before his success in England and Spain, the Croatian international began his career in his home country, more specifically Dinamo Zagreb.
After three campaigns in the Croatian capital, he moved to Serie A where he represented Inter for three seasons. After impressive individual performances by the midfielder, Real Madrid scooped up Kovacic on a six-year deal.
A La Liga title and three Champions League trophies later and Kovacic became one of the most decorated Croatian players in the game by the age of 24.
The now 29-year-old spent the 2018/19 season on loan at Chelsea and made 32 Premier League appearances in his debut season in the English top-flight as well as lifting the Europa League at the end of the campaign.
Kovacic made his move to Chelsea permanent in 2019 and in the past four seasons, he has won the Super Cup, Club World Cup and Champions League.
On the international stage, Kovacic has been a spearhead in Croatia’s centre ground, helping guide the team to a silver medal in the 2018 World Cup and third-place finish in the 2022 World Cup.
