Michael Brown believes Manchester City’s second half display against Arsenal provided ideal preparation for Monday night’s game against Burnley.

City were in complete control after David Luiz was dismissed just three minutes after the break and gratefully utilised the one-man advantage to control the tempo of the contest.

It meant our return to Premier League action resembled a training exercise at times, something Brown feels could prove invaluable as the players try to recover for a second game in five days after three and a half months off.

“It was always going to be a red card,” said the former City midfielder on our new weekly show, City Chat.

“Once they go to ten men it is so difficult. It is so difficult with 11.

“Going into the next game it was set up perfectly for City because they could just move the ball around and don’t have to make that extra run.

“They could make Arsenal work and then those players who have that little bit of fatigue and tightness could sit and wait for the ball.

“They controlled it perfectly right until the end. It was a great professional performance.”

The positives didn’t end there for Brown, who now expects City to follow up with a convincing victory over Burnley.

Phil Foden’s goal in the second minute of added team might only have added gloss to an inevitable win, but the one-time City midfielder felt the youngster’s reaction spoke volumes about his character.

“What really impresses me is his celebration when he scores,” Brown added.

“It’s 3-0 in the last minute, it doesn’t really matter, but he really enjoyed it.

“It shows you the hunger that he’s got.”
