Nathan Ake says accolades won’t be easy for City to achieve in the 2023/24 season, but the team are ready to fight for as many as possible.

The squad won our first piece of silverware of the 2023/24 campaign on Wednesday evening as we lifted the UEFA Super Cup for the first time in the Club’s history.

Pep Guardiola’s team fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, before beating Sevilla 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out in Athens.

After the game, Nathan Ake – who featured for the entirety of the match – expressed how motivated the team are to continue winning trophies following the Treble and Super Cup success.

“We are still hungry to win titles,” began Ake. “I think you could see today that everyone was so happy to win the game and we know that especially the final, it’s not going to come easily and we are not just going to outplay everyone.

“Yes, overcome tough moments and I think we did that today. We came back from 1-0 behind: we kept going, we kept trying, even when things weren’t going very well, you know, we kept trying, we kept believe and that’s what we have to do [for] the whole season.”

After our narrow penalty shoot-out defeat to Arsenal in the Community Shield at the start of the month, Ake and the rest of Guardiola’s team showed their tenacity to turn things around for the Super Cup.

And City have the potential to continue breaking records with five more trophies still up for grabs over the next 10 months as we compete in the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, Club World Cup and Champions League.

And like Wednesday evening, sometimes specific players will shine in key moments to aid in City’s route to silverware. Cole Palmer, one of City’s bright young sparks who has transitioned from the Academy to first-team football, scored our equaliser against Sevilla which later took the game to penalties.

“[He was] very good,” said Ake when asked about Palmer’s performance after the trophy celebrations.

“He always wants the ball. He’s very dangerous dribbling. He’s unpredictable. So, especially in the second half, I think he was incredible today.

“His goal as well but also his overall play – he was very good. He’s shown that many times now for us, so, he’s an amazing player.”
