The England international has been in sublime form this season, netting a brilliant hat-trick in last Saturday’s league 4-0 win at Norwich – and he shone again in Tuesday’s stunning 5-0 Champions League last 16 first leg triumph at Sporting in Lisbon.
The victory was our record away win in the Champions League era with Sterling capping a fine night’s work in the Portuguese capital by curling home a magnificent 58th minute strike that saw him become the Club’s 10th highest leading scorer.
And for former City defender Onuoha – one of our special guests on Tuesday’s Matchday Live show – it was merely further evidence of Sterling’s enduring quality.

“Raheem’s one of the best signings that City have had in the Premier League era,” Onuoha declared.
“He’s scored over 100 goals in the Premier League. Think of all the things Man City have won, take away his goals and do they still win them?
“We’ve had two players in the Premier League era who have got into the 100 club, you’ve got Sergio (Aguero) and Raheem.
“There’s so much to this, if it was that easy, you’d see so many others doing this. The guy scored a hat-trick in the Premier League and still has doubters, that’s ridiculous.
“When he’s at his best, City are an incredible side. He’s a difference maker. To see him in this form now is absolutely perfect.”
Onuoha and Tuesday night’s Matchday Live fellow special guest David James were both left gasping at both the beauty and execution of Sterling‘s Sporting strike that saw him enter the City all-time goal scoring top 10.
The England star cut inside from the left wing before despatching a stunning shot that curled into the top left-hand corner of the net.

It was his 127th goal since joining the Club in July 2015, moving him above Alec Herd into outright 10th position in the rankings.
And for Onuoha and James, it was a strike of the very highest quality.
“The goal was magnificent… he just sent the ball to its home. It was just a fantastic strike,” Onuoha added.
“It was truly remarkable, and you can see he’s a guy that is very, very confident.
“He almost expects to score and he has delivered many moments like that over the years.”
“The thing I loved about it most is that it was a pass into the top corner,” exclaimed former City and England goalkeeper James.
“You just went ‘wow’ and this is indicative of what City are about.

“There’s plenty in this squad who will fancy themselves to be voted into the team of the year and Sterling is right up there.
“Raheem Sterling’s season has got stronger and stronger.
“When he’s at his best he’s almost unplayable. He’s producing that form on a regular basis.”
