Matheus Nunes has expressed his astonishment after a spectacular Erling Haaland strike during the 5-0 UEFA Champions League victory over Sparta Prague.

The Norwegian’s first goal of the evening and our second, shortly before the hour mark, was the pick of the bunch as the striker acrobatically leapt into the air and flicked the ball into the corner from Savinho‘s cross.

Phil Foden had fired us ahead after just three minutes, whilst John Stones headed in our third before Haaland expertly finished to claim his second of the night.

Nunes rounded off an emphatic victory by slotting in our fifth from the penalty spot to claim a deserved three points in the league phase of the competition.

Nunes, when quizzed about Haaland’s astounding goal, revealed that he was left speechless.

“It was an amazing goal. I was speechless after his shot,” he said. “When he scored against Borussia Dortmund I was watching it on TV, and now to see it live was amazing.

“Even if it ended 1-0, we would still have the result. Our aim is to win the game, 1-0 or 5-0 doesn’t make a difference for us. Of course we want to score as much as we can, but it’s still a win.

“Even if we won by one goal it would be the same for us. Luckily this time we scored some beautiful goals.”

The Poruguese, who played the entire 90 minutes at the Etihad, also explained the importance of scoring early through Foden.

“It makes it easier for us,” he said. “We’ve had a couple of games where we conceded first. And then it makes it easier for the other team because they are already going to defend with a low block, but when we score in the first minutes, it made it easier for us.

“We had more of the ball and were more calm, we don’t need to be in a rush. So yeah, it was good.”
