Events in City's history from the recent past and years gone by...

1989

Trevor Morley is on the scoresheet as City travel to Brighton and Hove Albion, but the visitors fall to a 2-1 defeat.

The Seagulls open the scoring from the penalty spot with a spot-kick retaken for encroachment before Morley equalises with a deflected looping effort.

The hosts are handed all three points courtesy of an own-goal, as Ian Brightwell heads into his own net.

1990

With a torrid away record, struggling City visit high-flying Aston Villa.

Our miserable run looks to be extending when Gordon Cowans breaks the deadlock but City produce an impressive fightback to snatch victory - our first of the season on the road.

Mark Ward equalises with his first goal for the Club before Clive Allen and David White strike the woodwork but thankfully, Peter Reid is on hand to convert the rebound with an emphatic finish.

1995

City are edged 2-1 in the capital by struggling Crystal Palace.

Uwe Rosler cancels out Chris Armstrong’s strike (and celebrates by slide-tackling the corner flag!) but it’s not enough to claim a draw as Darren Patterson nets the winner.

2000

Goals from Shaun Goater and Mark Kennedy secure a 2-0 victory over Swindon Town en route to our second successive promotion.

2002

A Shaun Wright-Phillips brace gives City a crucial 2-0 win over nearest challengers Wolverhampton Wanderers and puts City eight points clear at the top of Division One – all but sealing the title in the process with just three games to go.

Kevin Keegan’s side – dubbed ‘the Entertainers’ – deservedly take our place back in the Premier League a week later.

2015

City secure a battling 1-0 win over Sunderland in an entertaining battle in the north-east.

Nikita Parris scores the only goal of the game midway through the first half as Nick Cushing’s side continue our unbeaten start to the campaign.

The visitors would go on to secure our first top-two finish, clinching a Champions League spot for the first time…
