In his 93rd appearance for City, popular Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong finally scores his first goal for City.
De Jong struck a ball from outside the box that somehow found its way through several bodies and into the corner of the West Ham net – the goal almost lifted the roof off the City of Manchester Stadium and the Blues go on to win 2-1.

After two promising seasons back in the Premier League, City had become embroiled in a relegation dog-fight, primarily with Leeds. City finally managed to pull clear and all-but guarantee safety with a 1-0 win over Newcastle.
Leeds’ 4-1 loss to Bolton the following day confirmed City’s top-flight status barring a 30-goal and six-point swing in the final two fixtures!
