Having beaten Wolves 4-0 at Molineux in November, this win marked one of only two doubles Tony Book’s men would manage during the season – the other coming against Arsenal.

Niall Quinn is on the scoresheet, breaking the deadlock, as City entertain neighbours United in the 118th Manchester Derby at Maine Road – and our first home Derby of the Premier League era.
The former Republic of Ireland striker heads home the opener from Rick Holden’s cross – past Peter Schmeichel – before Eric Cantona equalises for the Reds.
Mike Sheron almost grabs a winner but his low strike clips the foot of the post.
1999
Shaun Goater bags the only goal of the game – a stunning half-volley – to clinch a vital three points for City away at Colchester United in Division Two.
The Bermudan – sporting the fluorescent striped away kit which would become iconic in the Club’s history – brings a lofted ball under control before smashing into the back of the net from just outside the area.
The triumph, which is broadcast live via Pay Per View television, pushes City on to an impressive run of just one defeat in our final 11 games, ensuring Joe Royle’s men storm into the play-offs in form.

Birthdays
Former player Wyn Davies is born in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, Wales in 1942. Nicknamed ‘the Leap’, he would have a one-year spell at City from 1971 before moving across town to join United.
In Nottingham in 1961, Trevor Morley is born. He would move up to Manchester in January 1988, signing for Mel Machin’s City. In 72 appearances, he would score 18 league goals, including the crucial equaliser to secure promotion in the 1988/89 campaign and our second goal in the infamous 5-1 Maine Road Massacre!
On 20 March 1987, striker Jo is born in São Paulo, Brazil. After signing for City in 2008, he would make 42 appearances in all competitions in sky blue, scoring six goals.
