Leroy Sane scores twice as City edge past West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup. The German winger opens the scoring after just three minutes with the Baggies barely touching the ball as City passed the ball around the pitch confidently. Claus Jakob levels on 72 minutes but Sane restores City’s lead five minutes later with what will be the winning goal at The Hawthorns.
2018
Unbeaten City thrash Everton Women at Southport to remain unbeaten in the FAWSL. Nikita Parris bags a couple of goals for Nick Cushing’s side and Georgia Stanway and Claire Emslie also score in a 4-0 victory.
1947
City and United play out a 0-0 draw in the first post-war top flight derby, with more than 78,000 fans watching at Maine Road. Although the game itself was lacklustre in many ways, the significance of it being only the third meeting between the sides since 1931 was not lost on the masses of Mancunians gathered.
1986
Billy McNeill resigns seven games into new season and promptly announces “I’m no quitter” McNeill takes on the vacant job at Aston Villa, blaming lack of funds at City as part of the reason for his departure. McNeill’s stay at Villa Park will be a miserable one and ends in relegation – as would City’s campaign - meaning the former Celtic legend is the first manager to preside over two relegated teams in the same season.
