City were in derby dreamland, thrashing United 6-1 to record a famous victory at Old Trafford.
It was the Reds worst home defeat since 1955 and an emphatic statement of intent from Roberto Mancini’s side, who would go on to pip our rivals to the Premier League title later that season.
Mario Balotelli marked the first goal with his iconic ‘Why Always Me?’ celebration and doubled the lead in the second half after Jonny Evans had been sent off.
Sergio Aguero made it 3-0 before Darren Fletcher pulled one back for the hosts, but it proved little more than a consolation as City ran riot late on, with Edin Dzeko netting a brace and David Silva scoring a richly deserved goal.
