Looking back at events - good or bad - on this day in our history...

25 April

1992

Fitzroy Simpson bags his first City goal in 2-0 triumph over relegation-threatened Notts County at Maine Road.

The midfielder drives a first-time shot into the far corner from Adie Mike’s lay-off before Niall Quinn converts in the second half to seal the points.

The triumph, plus Coventry’s success over West Ham, relegates Notts County to Division Two.

1998

A turbulent campaign takes a terrible twist, as City’s hopes of survival suffer a severe blow on the penultimate day following a ludicrous 2-2 draw with Queens Park Rangers.

It had been a dream start for the home side with Georgi Kinkladze opening the scoring inside a minute, before former Blue Mike Sheron’s equaliser just seven minutes later.

The dream would become a nightmare with a comical piece of defending which sees Jamie Pollock put through his own net with what probably would have been a Goal of the Season contender if scored at the other end...

CITY+ | Free to Cityzens until football resumes

When QPR’s David Bardsley chips a hopeful ball forward, there looks to be little danger. Pollock, attempts to bring the ball under control flicks it over the striker with the seemingly easy task of then heading back to Martyn Margetson.

However, the header is badly overhit and misjudged and loops over the City shot-stopper to put the visitors 2-1 up and City in serious trouble.

Lee Bradbury manages to salvage a draw but it means our fate is no longer in our hands for the final day trip to Stoke...

2006

Darius Vassell scores against his former Club to clinch all three points for City at Aston Villa and end a torrid run of six straight league defeats.

Kevin Phillips thinks he’s equalised for the Villans but the offside flag is controversially raised as he converts Gareth Barry’s rebound.

2009

Robinho grabs a goal and an assist as City claim a memorable win at Everton.

The Brazilian drills home just after the half-hour mark from a tight angle, collecting compatriot Elano’s floated pass and driving into the box.

He then sets up Stephen Ireland to double the advantage in the second half with a controlled half-volley into the bottom corner.

Dan Gosling pulls a goal back in injury time for the hosts but City hang on for the points, as our hunt for a European place continues.

2011

Edin Dzeko climbs off the bench to score his first goal for the Club within moments of coming on to snatch a crucial victory at Blackburn.

The Bosnian Diamond’s 75th-minute goal proves to be the only one of a tense game and sends the 6,000 travelling fans wild at Ewood Park.

The win means City go four points clear of fifth-placed Tottenham with just five games remaining...

2015

Fernandinho’s late winner proves enough to settle a see-saw battle with Aston Villa at the Etihad Stadium.

Goals from Sergio Aguero and Aleks Kolarov puts the Champions firmly in the driving seat, but Villa fight back to level with two second-half goals appearing to earn the visitors an unlikely point.

But substitute Ferna scrambles home an 89th-minute winner to send City back up to second in the table.

Birthdays

Former City man Alan Kernaghan turns 53 today.

The defender, who was born in Ireland in 1967, spent four years at Maine Road from 1993 to 1997, clocking 63 appearances and scoring once.
