Eric Brook nets a hat-trick, including a 30-yard wonderstrike, with Peter Doherty and Alec Herd also on the scoresheet in the first of two five-goal triumphs over the Reds in a matter of days!

1955
After an absence of 21 years, City return to the semi-finals of the FA Cup, looking to progress to a fifth Final.
Sunderland and City had both won their home league fixture against each other that season and there was little to separate the teams at Villa Park where almost 60,000 people crammed in.
With Sunderland knowing there would be a chance of meeting Newcastle in the Final, the tension in the ground and on the pitch was tangible but it would be Roy Clarke’s solitary goal that settled the tie and book our Final spot against the Magpies, who had seen off minnows York City after a replay in the other semi.
1988
Imre Varadi finds the net at Oakwell but City fall to a 3-1 Division Two defeat to Barnsley on a disappointing afternoon which also sees Neil McNab sent-off late on.
1994
City play out a goalless draw at Boundary Park against Joe Royle’s Oldham Athletic.
2017
Nikita Parris’ 88th-minute goal sends City through to the FA Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win over Bristol City.
The forward is aided in her efforts by a deflection as she ensures Nick Cushing’s side’s cup run continues after Claire Emslie (who would of course join City the following June) had cancelled out our own-goal opener.
City would go on to lift the trophy for the first time with victory at Wembley Stadium in May…

In 1895, Jimmy McMullan is born in Denny, Stirlingshire, Scotland. The defender joined City in 1926, aged 30, and spent seven years at the Club, tallying 220 appearances and scoring ten goals.
Former City wing-back Michael Frontzeck is born in Mönchengladbach, West Germany on 26 March 1964.
Paul Bosvelt turns 50 today. The midfielder was born in Doetinchem in the Netherlands on 26 March 1970. He joined City in 2003 and spent two years at the Club, clocking 53 appearances and scoring twice.
