Looking back at events, signings and games from City’s history that occurred on this day…

27 March

1920

City host King George V, who becomes the first reigning monarch to visit an English football ground.

The King attends our Division One fixture against Liverpool at Hyde Road, where City edge an entertaining game 2-1 thanks to Horace Barnes’ brace.

1926

A Manchester derby in Yorkshire?

Just two months after cruising to a 6-1 win at Old Trafford, City face Manchester United in an FA Cup semi-final at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane.

It was the second time we had reached this stage in three years, with the Reds standing in the way of our first appearance at Wembley Stadium.

However, David Ashworth’s side produced again to claim a comprehensive 3-0 victory thanks to Tommy Browell’s brace and another from Frank Roberts to set up a final against Bolton Wanderers.
