1998
On the way to relegation to the third tier, Joe Royle’s men travelled to Valley Parade to take on mid-table Bradford City and when Jeff Whitley put City 1-0 up with a hopeful header from the corner of the six-yard box, the expectation was that Royle’s men would go on and win the game.
But the Bantams fought back after the break and goals from Nigel Pepper and Edinho sealed a 2-1 win for the West Yorkshire side.
It was City’s third loss in four games and with just six matches left, a further eight points from a possible 18 was not enough to prevent relegation to the third tier for the first time.

Bert Trautmann makes his 545th - and final - appearance for City away to Preston North End.

City’s 100% record in 2016 continued with an excellent 2-0 win over Arsenal Women.
Jane Ross’ first goal for the Club and a Toni Duggan penalty handed Nick Cushing’s side our sixth consecutive triumph and lifted the hosts top of the Super League table.

2018
City and Linkoping played out one of the most entertaining games in our history - an eight-goal thriller in the Champions League quarter-finals!
Cushing’s side, who had never lost away on European soil, held a strong advantage from the first leg and opened the scoring in Sweden through Jane Ross’ fourth goal in three games.
A Georgia Stanway double and a Jen Beattie header extended the advantage, as we found Linkoping to our liking.
As the visitors took our foot off the gas in the second period though, a Marija Banusic brace reduced the deficit, before Izzy Christiansen came off the bench to restore City’s cushion.
Tove Almqvist then struck to complete the scoring on another remarkable European night, as City won 5-3 at the Linkoping Arena and 7-3 on aggregate!

Matija Nastasic is born on this day in Valjevo, Serbia
Matija joined City in 2012 and played 51 games over two seasons before moving to Schalke where he has remained ever since.
He was voted City’s Young Player of the Year for 2012/13.
