City beat Stockport County 4-1 as Joe Royle’s side claim three vital points.

Shaun Goater scores after just five minutes, but Aaron Wilbraham levels just a minute later.

Richard Jobson and Lee Bradbury add further goals for City before the break and Bradbury completes the scoring before the hour-mark to settle the Greater Manchester derby watched by a full house at Maine Road.

Juan Pablo Angel had given Villa the lead on 32 minutes as Kevin Keegan’s side battle against relegation.

Another unhappy visit to Anfield as City lose the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool 3-0.

Goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane in the first 31 minutes put Jurgen Klopp’s side in firm control of the tie and give City a mountain to climb in the return leg.

Pep Guardiola says: “The clean sheet is so important for them. We are going to see how the players react. Accept the defeat, accept Liverpool being clinical and precise and we’ll see what happens next week.”
