Needing nothing less than a victory to set up a final day title tilt with QPR, City travel to Newcastle United on a tense and pivotal game in the 2011/12 Premier League battle of Manchester.
City fans endure 70 nail biting minutes without a goal before Yaya Toure fires home from distance to give Roberto Mancini’s side a 1-0 lead. And it is Yaya who adds a second on 89 minutes to settle nerves and send 3,000 travelling supporters delirious.

City knew a win over Bournemouth would win them promotion back to the top flight and by half-time, the celebrations had begun among the 30,564 Maine Road crowd with City leading 3-0 and coasting towards victory. Two goals from Paul Moulden and another from Trevor Morley had surely sealed victory? Remarkably, the Cherries clawed their way back into the game and with 90 minutes on the clock, they had reduced the arrears to 3-2. Then, in the seventh minute of added time, Luther Blissett equalised to make it 3-3 and leave the Blues still needing a point to go up.

In an incredibly tense penultimate game of the season, Vincent Kompany scores a screamer from 25 yards out to seal a crucial 1-0 win over Leicester City at the Etihad. The win sees City overhaul Liverpool at the top with one game remaining and is a fitting way for he skipper to cap his final home game for the Club (though nobody knew it at the time!).

City are presented with the Premier League title trophy after being crowned champions in mid-April. The free-scoring Blues are far from their best in a dull 0-0 draw with Huddersfield Town, but nobody is complaining.
