1894: Four City players quit the Club and sign for Baltimore Orioles. M Calvey, A Ferguson, T Little and A Wallace all left Manchester to join English coach A W Stewart across the Atlantic.
Drawing more than 8,000 fans to their opening home game, the Orioles seemed intent on duplicating the success of the Baltimore baseball club, who were the 1894 National League champions.

Baltimore establish themselves as the league leaders but the other clubs were not amused at Baltimore’s recruitment methods and after being thrashed by the Orioles 10-1, Washington Nationals coach Art Schmelz complained of the Baltimore club’s use of British professionals.
The press picked up on the story, and a full-blown controversy ensued. Baltimore, for its part, rather unconvincingly alleged that most of its players were from Detroit!
1979: Brian Clough’s European Cup-winning Nottingham Forest fail to score at Maine Road for a third successive season as Kaziu Deyna’s solitary goal gives City a welcome 1-0 win.
Deyna had also scored the only goal in a midweek 1-0 win over Middlesbrough just three days earlier as the Polish World Cup skipper finally began to show the flashes of brilliance that had made him an icon in his homeland.
2007: Future City favourite Joleon Lescott makes his international debut for the England side against Estonia, in a Euro 2008 qualifier.

The central defender replaces Rio Ferdinand at half-time in a game England go on to win 3-0.
Joleon went on to win 26 England caps and represented the Three Lions at Euro 2012, where he also scored in our opening group game against France.
