Oscar Bobb has praised the huge impact of his coaches Brian Barry-Murphy and Pep Guardiola during his time at City after signing a new contract.

The Norwegian has penned a three-year extension that will keep him at the Club until the summer of 2029 after becoming a major part of the first team squad this season.

Bobb joined the City Academy from Norwegian side Valeranga in 2019 and progressed through the age groups to the first team where he has now made 16 appearances.

And the 20-year-old was quick to thank EDS boss Barry-Murphy for believing in his talent and helping him transition to his squad.

“[Barry-Murphy] was very important,” Bobb said. “Before he came in, I hadn’t really played any 23s football, I had only played 18s.

“I struggled a bit in the 23s and then he came in and he showed a lot of confidence in me and helped me massively. I don’t think I would have got the chance here if it wasn’t for him.”

Bobb has already claimed two medals as part of the City squad that won both the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup at the end of 2023.

He also has two assists and two goals including a memorable last-minute winner at Newcastle that earned him the Premier League Goal of the Month for January.

The forward says it’s a dream to now play for Guardiola at the Etihad and that he his helping him improve as a player.

“I grew up watching not only his early City teams but also from his Barcelona and Bayern Munich days,” he said.

“The type of football he plays is amazing. And how he improves players, I think it’s a big factor for everyone wanting to play under him because he has proved time and again that he improves players. He’s so intense, so hard working and a nice guy.”

Bobb follows in a line of players that have made the leap from the Academy to becoming part of Guardiola’s squad.

Breaking into a team that won the ‘Big Five’ trophies last season is a tough ask and with Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Rico Lewis also successfully stepping up in recent years, he says it shows how the Academy is preparing players to succeed at the top level.

“I think it shows how well the club is run to develop that tactical mindset from an early age,” he added. “But also the man-to-man coaching is very good.

“Brian told me last year because Pep, tactically is what most people praise him for, but Brian told me the most important thing you can do for the manager of the first team is to run and work hard.

“And I think that really shows with everyone who came up before me – Rico, Cole, Phil – they’re great talents but they are so humble and so hard-working.

“I think the process of being in the Academy let you know that’s what you need to do.”
