The winger departs after six-and-a-half years at Manchester City, during which he has spent time on loan at Celtic, Norwich City, Middlesbrough, Derby County and City Football Group sister clubs, Girona and ESTAC Troyes.
Roberts arrived at the Etihad Stadium from Fulham in the summer of 2015 and went on to make three substitute appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side in his debut season.
He joined Celtic on an 18-month loan deal in January 2016, which was extended for a further season, and the Englishman enjoyed a hugely successful two-and-a-half years in Glasgow, where he lifted three Scottish Premierships, two League Cups and two Scottish Cups.
Roberts then continued his development with a series of loans, including a season in La Liga with Girona and he spent the first half of the current campaign with Ligue 1 outfit Troyes.
He will now embark on the next stage of his career at Sunderland and everyone at Manchester City wishes Patrick the very best of luck at the Stadium of Light.
