Paul Dickov hailed Phil Foden following the midfielder’s goalscoring performance in Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Foden was instrumental as Pep Guardiola’s side reached the last four of the competition for the fourth consecutive season, netting our third goal with a deft flick over Gunners’ goalkeeper Runar Runarsson before turning provider as Aymeric Laporte headed in to seal a comprehensive victory.

It was another reminder of the Academy graduate’s growing influence at first team level and Dickov felt the 20-year-old showcased everything that is good about his game with a brilliant display.

“Phil was fantastic,” he said on the We’re Not Really Here matchday show.

“Every time he plays, he seems to produce something whether it’s an assist or getting his goal tonight.

“It was a great finish and a great run, timing of the run and then you see his quality with the delivery for the fourth goal.

“He’s got an assist, he’s got a goal and was central to a lot of attacking stuff especially when he moved into the middle.”

Gabriel Jesus got City off to a flying start in North London, heading in the opening goal after just three minutes to end his run of eight matches without a goal.

It was textbook centre-forward play as he ghosted between Arsenal’s centre-backs to meet Oleksandr Zinchenko’s cross and his typically tireless display meant occupied the opposition’s thoughts through the game.

Dickov has been impressed with Jesus’ attitude and relentless desire and believes there’s more to come from a player who has now scored 71 goals in 163 games.

“I think he probably plays as if he’s got a point to prove all the time,” added our former striker.

“He does that all the time. His goals per minutes, it’s frightening and he’s still a young boy.

“I take my hat off to his attitude, whenever he gets his chance starting or coming off the bench he wants to impress.

“He’s already a top, top player and he’s only going to get better.”
