Pep Guardiola hailed City’s second half display that helped us climb to the top of the Premier League table – but stressed there’s still a ‘long road’ ahead.

City went in at 1-1 at half-time before dominating proceedings after the break and emerging 3-1 victors at the Emirates Stadium.

The boss was impressed with the performance in that last 45 minutes.

The result put us back to the summit of the top-flight on goal difference but Guardiola insisted there’s still plenty of football to be played between now and the end of the season.

He said: “Now we are top of the league but they have one game in hand.

“It’s a long road. There are plenty more games to play.

“Coming here and winning against that team, second half we were much, much better.

“The second half was excellent.

“Still they have one game left so I consider they are top of the league.

“Still many games to play. Many games.

“It is difficult for everyone but what is important is we come here, few weeks ago maybe eight, nine points behind, losing here would be almost over.

“And now for the fact they dropped points, we come here for the chance to be close.

“We won the game and yes we are there.

“Many games to play. The important thing is this victory against this team in this stadium.

“We have another one in three days then UCL. There’s many, many games to play for everyone.”

Guardiola revealed he was pleased with the focus of his players on the eve of the game as they look to defend their Premier League crown against the determined Gunners.

It was a vital match to put down a marker in the title race and one we managed to win.

The boss, who spoke of the importance of body language in training some weeks ago, saw exactly what he needed to see as they prepared ahead of the top-of-the-table encounter.

He added: “After winning back to back Premier Leagues, always I had the feeling that we need a little bit more.

“That’s why in the last weeks we talk a little more about that, but I saw the way they trained yesterday - their concentration and focus was there and we knew it, especially for the fact for our resilience in the bad moments when we suffer.

“They were better in the first half. We were not able to make the extra passes.

“We allowed them to have the ball in the second half and we made a step forward, we were more aggressive. Bernardo was much better on Odegaard and that allowed us to have an extra player in the middle.

“Erling helped us a lot because it was man to man marking from them and he was so aggressive and he used his power to win those balls and that’s why we won the game.”
