Ederson will be in goal for Manchester City’s FA Cup semi-final against Arsenal, after Pep Guardiola confirmed Claudio Bravo will miss the game with an injury.

Bravo, who usually deputises for Ederson in domestic cup competitions, has not recovered from the muscular problem which prevented him from being involved against Brighton and Hove Albion and Bournemouth.

There is better news for Joao Cancelo, however, who has returned to full fitness in time for Saturday’s trip to Wembley, whilst Guardiola has no new injury concerns.

“We are playing Ederson,” he said at Friday’s pre-match press conference.

“Claudio is a little bit injured. In the last few days he was not on the bench. He has muscular problems and can’t play tomorrow.

“Joao was injured. He had problems in his leg but now he is back and tomorrow he is ready to help us.

“Everybody [else] is fine.”

Guardiola took the opportunity to clarify his position on where domestic cups rank on his list of priorities, after it was reported he said finishing second in the Premier League was more important.

“My English is getting worse. I didn’t say that,” he explained.

“I said qualification for the Champions League is more important. Not finishing second. If we finish fourth, we would be there.

“The FA Cup is a more historical and beautiful cup. We are one step closer to getting to another final and we are going to try and do a good game tomorrow.

“The FA Cup semi-final is so important, especially when we have qualified for the Champions League already.”

City are looking to reach a second consecutive FA Cup final and go into the game having won on each of our last seven visits to Wembley.

Guardiola believes his players enjoy the showpiece occasions, but refutes claims that our exemplary recent record against Arsenal makes Saturday’s clash a formality.

“Wembley is an incredible place to play - old and new,” he added. “And players know the challenge we have to get to another final.

“No semi-final in my career was ever easy. Never ever. Semi-finals are different to finals. Players know it will be so tight.

“I don’t doubt the quality of their players and the manager they have. But it is a great opportunity to get to another final.

“We were there last season and we want to be again.”

Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-1 on Wednesday, which means’ Jurgen Klopp’s side will be unable to eclipse City’s record 100-point haul in the Premier League.

The Reds will finish on 99 should they win both their remaining games, but the boss admits he expects the 2017/18 Centurions will see their record broken at some point.

“That doesn’t cancel for one second the incredible league Liverpool have done,”added Pep.

“We congratulate them again.

“Always I thought the records are there to be broken. Sooner or later it will happen. But 100 points is not easy.

“We were incredible when we did it and incredible when we did 98. Liverpool can get 99. Both teams have been incredible.

“One day it will be broken.”
