Saturday’s 8-0 FA Cup third round win against Salford City was City’s third consecutive win in a row and added to the sense of momentum building within the squad.
However, addressing the media ahead of the visit to the Gtech Stadium, Guardiola said that though delighted with the recent results he was anticipating the toughest of tests in West London tomorrow night.
“Of course, we won three games. Before it was impossible to win one and now we won three. That helps us,” the City boss declared.
“But the reality is, we won against a team from League Two. For many reasons we should win.
“We did it quite well but still we have to wait to see if we are who we are.
“The mood is better. We have an enormously difficult game. Thomas and his team always create a lot of problems. They are a fantastic, fantastic team.”
Though the Bees went out of the FA Cup on Saturday after a 1-0 home loss to Plymouth, in the league they have established a formidable home record this term, losing just once.
Pep said with Brentford thriving under the stewardship of respected manager Thomas Frank, the trip to west London would present a formidable challenge for his team.
“[They have had a] Long, long time with Thomas Frank. In set pieces and high pressing, they are so aggressive,” Pep added.
“When they defend deep, they are so compact. Their transitions are tight.
“[For] many years in the Premier League [they have been] doing really, really well.
“Last game was not the best result at home but the trajectory in the last few years has been really good.”
