Pep Guardiola says his players must ignore the ‘stupid comments’ that it will be easy for City to win a fourth consecutive Premier League title next season.

City lifted the Premier League trophy for the third season in a row following our victory over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Looking ahead to next term, Guardiola expects that many pundits will predict his side will defend the title easily but the boss is under no illusions about how tough City’s rivals are.

And he says next season’s challenge will be harder than ever but added that any Club that wants to claim the crown will have to be better than his team.

“People are going to say now next season just Manchester City can win the Premier League - stupid comments,” he said ahead of City’s penultimate Premier League game of the season at Brighton on Wednesday.

“The only problem with stupid comments is they get in your head. As much as they get in your head when people say it’s easy for City to win the Premier League it’s because you accept these stupid comments. But as much as they are in your head, they remain stupid comments. This is the reality.

“Next season will be tougher because all the clubs want to beat us, they don’t like to see all the time one team win, win, win. They want to beat you and that is the challenge.

“But if they want it, they have to do better than us. If it happens, then it’s part of sport, congratulations.”

With finals in the FA Cup and Champions League still to come, Guardiola reiterated that no one is taking success in those competitions for granted.

City face Manchester United at Wembley before finishing the season with the Champions League final against Inter in Istanbul and the boss says we will have to be at our best to add more silverware this season.

“Doing our best, that is what we have to,” he added. “Get to the finals, doing our best.

“United can beat us? Yes. Inter can beat us? Absolutely. They have three Champions Leagues, we don’t have one.

“They can beat us absolutely. We have to try our best to win it. If it happens, it happens.”
