Pep Guardiola expects lots of twists and turns in the final months of the 2022/23 season as City hunt more silverware.

His side are tussling with Arsenal at the top of the Premier League and will complete a two-legged UEFA Champions League tie with RB Leipzig next month.

However, attention is currently on Tuesday night’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Bristol City v City | Match preview

We have never faced Bristol City in the world’s oldest club competition but did defeat them 5-3 on aggregate in the two-legged League Cup semi-final in 2017/18.

Given the knockout nature of the tournament, Guardiola knows that the Robins will put his team under pressure.

The boss is also confident there will be more drama in each competition before the trophies are handed out in the spring.

“We are in three competitions,” he said in Monday’s media briefing.

“Tomorrow and in the Champions League you have no chance when you lose. In the Premier League we are close and the last ten games will define the season.

“I have the feeling in the Premier League many things will happen - teams will drop points. But we can’t drop many if we want to be there!”

The Blues returned to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday thanks to goals from Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Phil Foden and a Chris Mepham own goal.

That came after draws with Leipzig and Nottingham Forest during a month that has seen us play away from home on six occasions.

Guardiola is pleased with his team’s application during such a taxing run of fixtures but he did concede that he hasn’t seen the ideal return in terms of results.

He stated: “After Nottingham Forest, we were not consistent, now we are because we won one game.

“The way we are playing is good, results could be better. Sometimes it happens in football. Results are not exceptional but it’s okay.

“I have no complaints about how we are playing and how we are fighting. The mood in the locker room is exceptional and the guys are doing everything - that is enough for me.”
