Laporte was part of the Spain squad for the recent World Cup in Qatar and played in City’s first game after the break - a 3-2 Carabao Cup victory over Liverpool on 22 December.
Since then, the defender has been an unused substitute at Leeds United and was not involved in the New Year’s Eve draw with Everton.
The Blues train at the CFA later today before the journey down to London for tomorrow night’s Stamford Bridge clash.
Ahead of that game, Guardiola delivered an update on the fitness of both Laporte and Ruben Dias, who is yet to feature in a matchday squad since the World Cup.
He said: “Ruben is out. Aymer [Laporte], we will see today at the training session.”
City’s opponents are 10th in the Premier League going into this fixture after Graham Potter replaced Thomas Tuchel in September.
Chelsea have won seven of their 16 league fixtures so far this season and only one of their last five.
Asked whether he was surprised to see Chelsea’s position in the table, he said: “It’s the Premier League, everyone is tough.
“In the first press conference you ask my prediction and my answer is always: I don’t know. We see what will happen now after the World Cup.”
