Pep Guardiola has pinpointed Erling Haaland’s hunger to improve as the attribute that has surprised him the most about the City striker.

Everyone has seen Haaland’s scoring abilities first hand, with the powerful forward notching up 25 goals in the Premier League and 31 across all competitions so far this season.

City boss Guardiola has clearly been happy with this hugely impressive return from the Norwegian’s first campaign in the English top-flight so far.

But, on the training ground, he’s been delighted to see his eagerness to get even better in all aspects of his game.

He’ll be coming up against another top forward this weekend in Harry Kane, as City travel to Tottenham on Sunday, kick-off 16:30pm (UK time).

Guardiola believes Haaland, as he continues his football education, will be watching Kane – and other star players – to aid his development.

And the boss thinks this desire for improvement is a characteristic to nurture, both in life and in sport.

The City boss said: “With Erling, one of the attributes that surprised the most, is the fact, the feeling he’s aware he can improve in many, many departments.

“And I’m pretty sure watching Harry Kane but not necessarily Harry Kane but also other players, he has the will to (think) ‘I can get better’.

“And with his age, this is the best thing he can believe. Otherwise, it would be boring.

“And until we pass away, always we can improve.

“It is the only thing in our lives. Never, never stop, you know, never stop what we can do.”
