Pep Guardiola says City’s next setback will be the true test of his players’ mettle.

We are currently enjoying a remarkable 16-game winning run in all competitions - and it’s now 23 matches unbeaten, a period stretching back to late November when we lost at Tottenham.

It’s a phenomenal sequence of results, with City looking to move 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League table when we travel to Goodison Park to play Everton on Wednesday.

We are also through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, safely into the final of the Carabao Cup and our Champions League campaign restarts at the last-16 stage next week.

But Guardiola, wary of the uncertainty and constraints posed by the ongoing global health pandemic, believes the way his players and staff react to our next defeat will show him how ready we are to end the season with silverware.

“You never get perfection,” he said. “What we have done winning 16 in a row is a consequence of preparing as best as possible for the next game.

“Two months ago we were not in the thoughts of any person in world football about winning the Premier League. A lot of things can still happen.

“All that is in my head is Everton.

“We will drop points, for sure. That is the moment I am expecting a reaction from all of us.”

Meanwhile, Guardiola says the quality he has available means he will continue to use his squad the fullest.

City face a gruelling gruelling fixture list, with our run of form ensuring our quest for four trophies continues apace.

The next week is a case in point, with City facing a Premier League double away at Everton and Arsenal, before travelling to Budapest to face Borussia Monchengladbach.

Those three crucial games are spread over just eight days.

Guardiola says he will continue to rotate his squad over the coming weeks and months because he believes he has a group of players who all deserve to play a part.

“I try to involve all the players,” he said. “I rotate all the players.

“It’s the only chance we have to win all the competitions. We need everyone.

“In these two games [Everton and Arsenal], I will try and play as many players as possible, not for Borussia Monchengladbach, but because I love all my players.”
